An End
I feel as if I should have something profound to say here. Something about finally accomplishing a goal that has been there for my entire life. But really, at this moment, I’m burned out. I will start writing for me again soon. It is what I want to do with my life, after all. But right now, I just want to relax. To smile. To enjoy my life. I also want to read for me(already started by...

Struggling For Focus
I’m approaching 3 hours into my work shift today. In that time, I’ve written 2 essays for my popular literature final(not saying they are great essays, but they are essays). Focusing for the 3rd(and final) of the essays for that final is becoming a problem. I’m giving myself 15 minutes before I have to buckle down and do nothing but write on that essay, so in the meantime let me...

Finals
I am a few keystrokes(okay a lot of keystrokes) away from finishing my college career. It has been a fun ride. I’ve met people who mean the world to me. I’ve also met people who I wouldn’t care if I never saw them again. That’s life for ya.

Yesterday, in Western Civ, we watched a holocaust documentary that was narrated by the guy who does the voice-over work for the Law & Order franchise. Everytime he’d do a bit of narration I expected the chung-chung sound followed by Benson and Stabler coming out to arrest the Nazis. So much wrong with my brain.

My Dream Vacation
My love of technology is known. I love my computer, my PS3, my XBOX360, and my iPhone as much as anybody could. But I have a dream vacation that doesn’t involve any of that. That vacation(that I am moving closer to making a reality) involves me(and possibly a companion or two) getting in a car, with no destination in mind, and driving. This may seem simple, but it gets complicated when I...

Technology is Cool Sometimes.
I’ve been watching a lot of Law & Order:SVU lately streaming on NetFlix at work(my job isn’t exactly what you would call stressful). It has made me thankful for some of the modern conveniences that we are given. I remember, within the past decade, that if I wanted to watch a TV show that aired as recently as last night, that I had better have set my VCR to record it(and hoped to...

I must really need sleep.
I was just using StumbleUpon, as I am known to do, when I came across a page titled “Dresses made from GARBAGE”(emphasis in the original). The reason this made me realize I needed sleep was that, while waiting for the page to load the pretty pictures, my only thought was “Did they make the dresses out of Shirley Manson or just Garbage CDs?” For some reason, it did not...

Insomnia(of an unusual sort for me)
Sleep has been problematic for me of late. Historically, this has been a sign of me being mired in the pits of depression. It is, typically, paired with a lack of appetite and my urge to avoid all human contact. This is not, at all, the case this time. I’m actually in a healthy, happy place(almost without exception). My fledgling relationship is going swimmingly. My elimination of negative...

Odd Juxtaposition
We’re watching Man on Wire in my recent popular literature class. It is a movie about a man obsessed with performing a high-wire walk, with no net, between the two towers of the World Trade Center. Early in the film, they show scenes of the towers being constructed. These scenes have an eerie similarity with the scenes of rescue workers digging through the rubble on the exact same site that...

Goodness Gracious
I had no idea that children, en masse, could be gracious.-Rupert Giles, Buffy the Vampire Slayer I just read a remarkable story in the local paper. In a nearby small town the high school held a special graduation ceremony for a single member of their senior class. Why? Because he has been fighting bone cancer for a year and, in all likelihood, won’t be able to take part in the traditional...

Looking Forward To It
I’ve started to plan for my post-collegiate life. Does this mean that I’ve begun looking for a job? Barely. What it does mean is that I’ve begun considering what books I need to read ASAP. I’ve always been a voracious reader but have let the concept of reading for pleasure and personal enrichment fall by the wayside during my five(yes, five) years of college. This is...

One Day At A Time
“I’m so proud of you for dealing with your stuff.” One of my professors, who I also count as a friend, said this to me today after I told her of my new tactics for eliminating destructive forces in my life. “Wanted to say, I’m proud of you for clearing out your life.” Different friend. Different moment. Same sentiment. Same reason. Same unmitigated pride. I...

Cleansing My Life
I have a history of letting people walk all over me. This occurs in friendships, romantic relationships, work, and every other possible type of interpersonal interaction. It comes from my urge(need) to be a nice guy. My need to be liked(loved). It is time to change this. Last night, I was told, not for the first time, that a woman that has long called me her friend has been telling people how...

Shame
“I have no problem with gays. But when they start kissing in front of me it really pisses me off.” I heard this clever comment as I walked by the Queers and Allies Pride Week display on campus. (The title of this post comes from a quotation that I stumbled upon by Richard Hooker. It seemed appropriate for me at the moment.) I’ve spent the majority of my life living for other people. I’ve given up my hopes, my dreams, my desires for those of others. I moved from my hometown when I was 14 because my mom wanted to. I became the caretaker for my mother from the age of 16 till I...

8 AM Class Musings
8 AM class is akin to root canal. I like the professor. Don’t hate the subject. Indifferent to the majority of the class.
